MAJOR ROAD CLOSURE 1st July to 25th August
A major road closure this summer will increase travel times for many of our customers.
The A 606 between Melton Mowbray and Oakham will be closed between 1st July and 25th August.
Please allow extra time for your journey and read the below before setting off.
- If you are driving a small campervan and are confident navigating narrow, winding roads, then you should be OK to use Google Maps etc.
The same applies to cars – if you are not towing. - If you are in a motorhome or towing a caravan, you should probably keep to main roads as follows.
- If your journey can be done on the A1, either from the North or South.
Exit the A1 at the A606 Stamford. Signposted “OAKHAM A606” and “RUTLAND WATER 5”.
Head toward Oakham and Rutland Water.
Stay on the A606 as it passes the edge of Oakham then through Langham.
Ignore the sign to Whissendine just as you exit Langham. Stay on the A606.
You will climb a gentle hill followed by a steeper dip.
As you climb out of this dip, take your next right into Pickwell Lane. (You will see a brown ‘campsite’ sign, and notice a separate lane for the right turn.)
You will pass a stud farm on your left, and Waterley’s farm on your right.
Greendale is the next right turn, around 2/3 mile from the A606.
If your journey is from The South West, West or North West, and the A1 is not an option, we suggest you head towards Uppingham either on the A47 from Leicester, or the A6003 from Corby.
At Uppingham, take the A6003 to Oakham.
You will meet the A606 on the outskirts of Oakham.
Stay on the A606 as it passes the edge of Oakham then through Langham.
Ignore the sign to Whissendine just as you exit Langham. Stay on the A606.

This is a major road closure that will affect all through traffic this summer.
Please:
- Allow extra time for your journey.
- Expect additional large vehicles on narrow roads.
- Anticipate mobile speed cameras.
- Watch out for idiots.
- Don’t take risks.
