The village of Whissendine is 15 minutes walk along our quiet lane.
A picturesque and interesting village with a fabulous friendly village pub, a working windmill, a village shop and post office and lots of cycling and walking opportunities.
The White Lion serves great beer and good food, the landlord is also a talented magician and member of the Inner Magic Circle.
St Andrew in Whissendine is one of Bill Bryson's favourite ever churches. He says, "This overlooked corner of England has an abundance of outstanding churches, but this is my favourite. It enjoys an imposing setting at the top of the village and boasts the tidiest churchyard I have ever seen. Inside the church is unusually light and capacious and at one end of the nave is a large collection of books and CDs that locals can borrow or buy, which I think is a most thoughtful touch"
A mile in the opposite direction and you will find Northfield Farm. Their award-winning meat and produce is for sale at the farm shop.
