Melton Mowbray
The
town is probably best known for the market, pork pies and
Stilton
cheese. It is a popular and lively place to visit, especially on
the market days of Tuesday and Saturday.

Melton's
has a strong historical connection as can be seen in buildings
such as the Anne of Cleves' House, a gift from King Henry VIII to
his divorced wife in the mid 16th century and the cathedral-sized
St. Mary's Church, which dates from 1170.

The
phrase ‘painting the town red” originated in Melton when some
young aristocrats up for the hunt went on a drunken spree in the
1800s and literally painted Melton town centre red.
There
are a variety of places to visit in Melton including:
The
Markets,
Ye
Olde Pork Pie Shoppe, St Mary's Church, Melton Indoor Bowling
Centre, Melton Carnegie Museum,
& Waterfield Leisure Pools.
The
Regal Cinema
in the town has recently been restored and is due to re-open in
March 2013
Just outside the town is Melton Country Park.
