Whissendine, a village of about 1000 inhabitants, where you
will find two churches, a windmill, a school, two pubs, a bistro +
shop and several listed buildings.
Oakham,
the County town of Rutland is just four and a half miles away.
This attractive small market town is
rich in history and character with some good quality
small shops and lots of pubs and restaurants.
Six miles from
the campsite in the opposite direction is the larger market town
of Melton Mowbray

Rutland, often referred to as the Secret England, is a
beautiful and interesting county with lots of places to visit for
all tastes. Our tourist information section gives many ideas.
Nearby Rutland Water provides a wonderful opportunity for water
sports, cycling, walking, climbing and fishing and has a nature
reserve beside it. Barnsdale Gardens [Geoff Hamilton] is just a
few minutes drive away. Nearby Oakham, the county town is “rich
in history and character” with some good quality small shops and

town, in the other direction is very different in character and is

within a ¾ hour drive.
